Lofoten Coastal Cruise

Experience world’s most beautiful archipelago during winter

Join us on a fantastic four days winter cruise and experience world’s most beautiful archipelago Steigen and Lofoten in Arctic Northern Norway, visiting the Hamarøy, Svolvær and Gravdal. We are sailing on the classical and nostalgic Hurtigruten vessel MS Nordstjernen, getting close to the Arctic winter nature while tagging along the Atlantic coastline, experiencing the fantastic winter light and if lucky the Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights.

Route and Destination

Sailing during winter time in Arctic Northern Norway is something special. Days are getting lighter, after months with the dark season when the sun stays below the horizon. We will be exploring local culture and history, and in the evening, we are sailing between these fantastic islands, while enjoying local food made by some of Norway’s most talented chefs. At night we are docked to give you a good night sleep.

On this mini-cruise you will be exploring some of Northern Norways most beautiful and interesting destinations. We are sailing out of Bodø in to Vestfjorden (the West fjord), heading for Hamarøy, Svolvær and Gravdal. Here we will be exploring the famous Norwegian author Knut Hamsuns home and museum, Norwegian stockfish history and local culture in Svolvær and on the fisherman island Henningsvær, the fantastic Viking settlement and museum on Borg in Gravdal, before heading back to Bodø. Our friendly and competent hosts will provide you with mini-lectures while sailing between the destinations, in order to give you necessary knowledge to enjoy the local culture, sites and nature. We promise an adventure of a life time.

Classic boutique cruise on MS Nordstjernen

The ship was built for the Coastal Voyage fleet in 1956 and extensively modernised in 2000 for exclusive Arctic sailing. Despite modernisation, she still retains the aura of an old Atlantic ship, restored to her former splendour with new brass, classic wooden interiors and all her original art. Out on deck you come extra close to the untouched nature of Arctic Northern Norway. MS Nordstjernen is equipped with a dining room and bar, a café, a panorama lounge and a library. Inside you’ll find cosy interior and exterior cabins, the majority of which have upper and lower berths. All rooms and deck surfaces exhibit that old, beautiful wood.

Cabins

Cabins are classic and basic, but with the facilities you need for a comfortable stay aboard this beautiful and venerable vessel; good bunk beds and toilet & shower or just a sink with shower in the hall, in all cabins. All cabins have 220 voltage and there is off course free wife onboard.
